Students will critically look at school lunches and determine if the monthly menu contains enough healthy choices. All elementary grade students in Howard County learn about the food pyramid and carefully look at the food choices that are available.

More than 40% of the students at my school receive a Free  and or  Reduced Meal (FARM). Some parents can not afford to spend money on a healthy lunch for their child to take to school every day. What parents may or may not know is what their child is eating on a regular basis.

According to The Howard County Public School System, "The Howard County Public School System participates in the National School Lunch Program/School Breakfast Program. Nutritious meals are served every school day."

Basic Menu- The elementary school basic meal. This costs $2.50 and a reduced meal is .40. Breakfast is also available for $1.75 or .30 for reduced meal. Breakfast choices are limited.

Students will analyze websites and consider the 5 W's from Kathy Schrock's website.
