Video games have taken on a
whole new meaning over the past decades. Children do not just sit
down in front of a television anymore to play innocent video games, now
they can play games almost everywhere. Some of there games are
cute and some are extremely violent.
Why are children so addicted to video games, are they educational, can they cause ADD or ADHD? These are just some of the questions that many parents have thought about before starting the video game saga within their home. In this activity second graders will be led through simple suggestions on how to evaluate web sites. They will also try to interpret the stance the particular author/authors have taken on the subject of children and video games. They will also work together to develop a simple website evaluation form for children their age to use. Keep in mind that this project is geared toward the gifted seven year old. These children are reading at least two grade levels above their current grade level with comprehension. They are also used to discussing literature in literature circles and interpreting literature in small reading groups.
