Was Christopher Columbus a Great Person Who Explored the Americas?

Throughout elementary school, young aged students are taught that Christopher Columbus was a great person. He left Spain seeking treasures from the far east but instead discovered discover the Americas. When he arrived the Native Americans greeted him and they became friends. But was that what really happened? Was Christopher Columbus so friendly? Were the Native Americans and Explorers friends? In this activity, students will take a critical look at Christopher Columbus through the use of on and offline texts. By the end of the lesson, students will be asked to look into themselves to see if their perspective of Christopher Columbus has changed.
