The Operation VOTE! project has been created to teach second and third grade students the basic foundation behind the democratic election process. The ideas of stance, campaigning, and voting are discussed during this highly motivating telecollaborative project. During this project, two to three classes work to create their own fictional candidate for their ideal principal. The classes create campaign speeches and podcasts supporting their candidate's views. The podcasts are posted on the project website for students and the other classes to listen to. In the end, each student makes a decision based on the speeches, and they vote to elect the principal. Along the way, students will blog about their experiences. At the conclusion of the project, students write a final journal as an assessment of what they have learned.
