Gas prices

Why are they different around the country?

Is it fair that someone in California pays more for their gas than someone who lives in Georgia?  This is something to think about.  I have started this project to see if we can answer this question.  The project is designed for students in Algebra 1 classrooms using Carnegie Cognitive Tutor Program.

Click below to see video on  gas prices, you may want to stop the video after 1:40.  You could use this video (if you school allows use of YouTube) for you motivator to the students.

What will you get?

You will have access to three lesson for three different days.  You do not need to do all three lessons and they do not have to be done at the same time.   Click below for each lesson.  I have included the chapters from Carnegie Learning Algebra 1 that the lessons cover.

Break Down of a Gallon  (Proportions Chapter 2)
Finding Data: State Taxes and Locations of Oil Refineries
(MUST BE DONE)
Correlation / Line of Best Fit Lessons (Chapter 6)

What do you need to do? Fill out the form on How to Join and report local gas prices on December 1, 2008 and the gas station's distance from the closest oil refinery.  We will be using Google Documents to record the information so you must have a Google ID to participate.
