Book Review Critical Issue Internet Projects

Technology is a big part of everyday life, from automatic sinks in bathrooms
to self-scan checkout lines in grocery stores. Educators are held responsible
for teaching more and more technology skills to students when many of them
lack the adequate training with the fast pace of technology.
One topic often overlooked in schools is teaching students to view the Internet
critically and not assume that everything out there is true. Many students use the
Internet to research information for projects or for personal inquiry.
Without careful evaluation of where they are retrieving their information, students
could be led to believe something is true that is actually someone's opinion.
Further, without critical thinking, students may never ask the question
"What else is out there that I'm missing?"

This site contains some resources for parents and teachers to help children try to understand that there is more out on the Internet than meets the eye.
There is a book review that discusses some interesting issues surrounding the Internet. Also, there are some Internet projects to show some ways
teachers could use the Internet in their classrooms. In the Critical Issue section, students are asked to analyze a topic that has two very distinct
arguments. There are rubrics to use when viewing websites to help students begin to think critically about where they are retrieving their information.
