Web Page Critique Project

Class Information

Class: Mr. Bianchi
Students: 25
Grade: Fifth
Teacher: Mr. Geyer
Time: One 1hr Class

Introduction

Today, we will be learning about Web pages. There are millions of pages on the internet. Our goal today is to analyze Web pages and assess if the information is true or false. You will be given ample time to critique the links I have provided. As a student, you must be extremely critical of the information on the internet and that is what we will accomplish today.

Objectives

  1. The student will investigate the designated links.
  2. The student will assess the information on each Web page.
  3. The student will produce a written summary discussing the site and its' relation to their feelings and emotions.

Equipment

  1. Computers for each of the students
  2. Internet access
  3. Word application

Procedure

Please click on the Checklist Pulldown to view the checklists you will use to assess the links. After you have read the checklist you may begin by clicking on each of the links. The links will bring you to the Web page. You are to investigate and assess the information using the checklist and supply a paragraph. It should not be totally based on the checklist itself, but how you feel about the information, if you feel persuaded, and if you believe it is to be supported by validated research.

Web Site Links

The sources provided will give you an idea of the different attitudes toward the sites I have provided for critiquing.

Assessment Criteria

I would like you to complete a paragraph for each of the websites using the checklists/rubrics provided. Here are the guidelines.

The paragraph:
  1. Completed using Word
  2. Minimum 5 sentences
  3. Minimum 3 paragraphs

Brief Summary of Links

I constructed this web page to discuss the facts on whether or not milk is a necessity and if we truly need it. I chose my links because they covered all areas of milk both scientifically and opinions. The sites that provided both positives and negatives were excellent because students are able to see both sides, but yet they still needed to think for themselves and compare it to their experiences and beliefs. I believe when students read the material and truly analyze it personally they will uncover more than meets the eye.
